Case Study:
Data Center Relocation

The Need

Our client was moving its headquarters into a new building, and constructing a new Enterprise Data Center in the process. They needed to populate this data center with all new networking, server, and storage infrastructure, and move their existing systems into this new data center with little disruption to business operations.

The Challenges
  • A new network design and IP address scheme meant that every single IP address (internal and external) had to change
  • Many of the systems had not been touched in years and were not well documented
  • Over 70 third-party integration partnerships were impacted
  • An expiring lease meant there was a tight timeline and no room for delays
  • Going over budget was not an option
Our Role

The Kelso Group provided project leadership and coordination of the hardware acquisition, installation, wiring, configuration, and testing of the new facility. We also scheduled and managed the migration of all development, test, and production systems into the new data center, including coordination with all business partners (both clients and vendors) regarding necessary IP address changes and the impact to external integrated systems.

Results

The migration was completed on schedule, under budget, and with very little downtime or impact to business operations. Standardization and documentation of the infrastructure and network architecture was greatly improved, in addition to the security, redundancy, and scalability of the systems. Overall system performance for key applications saw a 50-70% improvement.
